Proving to be a breath of fresh air each and every season (and a highlight of New York Fashion Week for many), Patrik Ervell delivered another promising collection during the runway show for his Spring/Summer 2012 collection this past Sunday evening at MILK Studios. Always adding some sort of technical element to his garments, the designer’s signature touch was immediately recognizable in a series of watercolor-dyed shirts he sent down the runway. Pairing the shirts with solid-colored unstructured blazers and ankle-bearing cropped trousers, Ervell was able to achieve a unique balance which served to domesticate the unusually wild print. If the designer’s talents could be narrowed down to one strength, however, it would undoubtedly have to be his ability to produce perfectly tailored outerwear as demonstrated by the hooded coats and bomber jackets he produced. Also, in an unexpected turn of events, Ervell chose to debut his very first womenswear collection this season which, although mirroring many of the same elements as the men’s range, was definitely a show all of its own. -Adrian Brinkley
